Houston marketing, start to finish

How one plan covers Houston and the metro around it

Lithium Marketing gives Houston service businesses one plan across four channels, so the site, the search rankings, the ads and the AI receptionist all chase the same booked jobs and report the same calls. The Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands metro area has 7,904,627 people, and if your crews also take jobs in Pasadena or The Woodlands, every part of the plan should cover those cities by name.

Harris County holds most of Houston, but the city runs into Fort Bend and Montgomery counties as well. County lines never appear in a search for “plumber houston”, so your website, Google Business Profile and ads should all describe one service area, by city and neighborhood, wherever a customer finds you.

Houston’s growth

A growing Houston and its business districts

Houston grew 4.2% between 2020 and 2025, to 2,397,315 residents. A household that is new to the city has no regular plumber or electrician yet, so the companies it finds first in search have the first shot at that work.

Houston has also grown several business districts beyond Downtown, including Uptown, Greenway Plaza, Memorial City, the Energy Corridor and Westchase. If you take commercial work, put the districts you serve on your commercial service page and in your ad targeting, so a building or property manager there can see you cover them.

Harris County’s trades

Harris County’s three biggest charted trades

On the Harris County chart, the two biggest trade groups are plumbing and HVAC, with 1,187 contractors, and residential remodeling, with 885. With that many companies a homeowner could call, the plan puts your reviews and finished jobs in front of searchers at every step: your Google Business Profile, the ad and the page it opens.

Electrical contractors are close behind, at 833 in the county. Electricians sell very different jobs, from service upgrades to generator installs, and each one deserves its own page and, where the job pays well enough, its own ad group.

How it fits together

Putting the four services in order

Each step sets up the next, and the call data decides where the budget goes.

1

Choose the jobs to chase

We start with the services and nearby cities that pay you best, because every page, ad and phone rule gets built around that short list.

2

Get the website ready for traffic

Your site gets a page for each of those services and a call button on every screen, since SEO and Google Ads both send people there.

3

Run ads while SEO builds

SEO gains compound over months, so Google Ads covers the services you need calls for now, and the budget gets revisited once rankings move.

4

Put every call in one report

Calls, forms and AI receptionist bookings land in one monthly report, sorted by the service and city that produced them.

FAQ

What Houston contractors ask about a full marketing plan

DJ Van Zanten

Still curious?

Call (503) 766-5964 or email [email protected].

Lithium is headquartered in Portland. How does it work with a Houston company?

Over video calls, phone and email, the same as every Lithium client, including those near our Portland headquarters. Nothing in the plan depends on being in Houston: it is built from your call tracking, your Google Business Profile and the searches naming Houston, and a co-founder walks you through it on screen.

Can we start with Google Ads and add SEO later?

Yes, and it is a sensible order when you need calls soon. Ad campaigns typically show first results within a week of launch, while local SEO rankings usually need 60 to 90 days to move. Running ads first also lets the call tracking show which services are worth ranking for before SEO starts.

Is a small crew too small for this kind of plan?

No, because you don’t have to buy all four services. A two-truck electrician might need only a better website and the AI receptionist, while a remodeler with a long project list might add SEO and Google Ads. A co-founder looks at your calls and your site on the first video call and tells you what fits your budget.

Is there a long contract?

Most Lithium services start with a six-month agreement and then go month to month, ending with 30 days’ notice. The AI receptionist has no contract at all. Because each service is priced separately, you can drop one or add one without reworking the others.

What should a Houston owner have ready for the first call?

Bring three things: your goals, your average job value and access to your accounts. That means the services and cities you want more work from, a rough figure for what a typical job is worth, and access to whatever you already run, such as your website, Google Business Profile and any ad accounts. If you track calls today, bring last month’s count too.
