Where to start in Minnesota

Choose the Minnesota cities before the services

Lithium Marketing is a digital marketing agency for service businesses across Minnesota. We build websites, run SEO and Google Ads, and answer calls with an AI receptionist. Every plan is sized to the cities where you can take jobs.

More than 60% of Minnesotans, about 3.71 million people, live in the Twin Cities metro area. The remainder of the state is known as “Greater Minnesota” or “Outstate Minnesota”, and a business that covers both needs pages in both. The order to build them follows your crews, not the map.

Cities you can compare

Minnesota cities with pages of their own

Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, Duluth, Bloomington, Brooklyn Park, Woodbury and Plymouth each have a page of their own, so you can compare the city where you already work with the next one you want to win.

Housing and growth across the state

A state of older homes and a newer share

The median Minnesota home was built in 1979, and 10.4% of Minnesota homes were built in 2010 or later. Repair and replacement work fits the older share of that stock, while additions, finishes and new systems fit the newer share. If you do both, say which one you want more of on the page and show a job from each.

Minnesota’s population continues to grow, primarily in the urban centers. For a new resident, a page that shows your coverage and a finished job nearby does the introducing. If most of your work comes from repeat customers, that page still matters when a neighbor asks who to call.

The trades that make up the state

What the trade counts mean for a Minnesota business

2,988 residential remodelers and 2,397 landscaping services work across Minnesota, and both labels cover very different jobs. A basement finish and a deck build need separate explanations, and so do a spring cleanup and a full planting design. A page that says which jobs you take gives a homeowner a reason to call.

1,816 plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors and 1,534 electrical contractors work statewide, and a homeowner choosing between a repair and a replacement needs to know which one you do. Write that on the page, then keep the same wording in your ads and your phone answers so the first call is about the job you sell.

FAQ

What Minnesota owners ask before they hire

DJ Van Zanten

Still curious?

Call (503) 766-5964 or email [email protected].

Which Minnesota city should we start with?

Start with the city where you want the next job, not the one with the largest population. Look at the demand figures on that city’s page and at how many crews you can keep busy, then add a second city once the first one produces steady work.

Should every city we serve get its own page?

Every city you sell in needs its own page, because the searches and the housing differ from city to city. If the services differ by city, give each service its own page there too. A roofer who also remodels has two offers that should not share one page.

How long does it take to see calls?

Google Ads can show early results within the first week. A website usually takes six to nine weeks from kickoff to launch, and SEO is slower: technical fixes usually move within 30 days, and local search visibility typically builds over 60 to 90 days.

Should we start with SEO or Google Ads?

It depends on how fast you need calls. Google Ads can put your offer in front of searchers while a new site or a set of city pages is being built, and SEO builds visibility that keeps working after the ads stop. Start with one and add the other when the budget allows.

How is Greater Minnesota different from the Twin Cities?

The work is the same, but the markets are not. Rochester and Duluth sit outside the Twin Cities metro, so each city page starts from its own searches and its own housing stock. A business that covers both the metro and Greater Minnesota needs a plan that treats them as separate places.
