Why contractor SEO is different
Contractor search works differently, so contractor SEO has to.
Contractors are hired on fit: the buyer is choosing who to trust with a large project, and the way they search reflects that.
Buyers search for the project, not the trade
People type “retaining wall builder”, “commercial storefront glass” or “vinyl fence installation”, often with a town name. One services page cannot rank for all of them, so each project type you want more of needs its own page.
Your service area is bigger than your address
Most contractors take jobs in towns well beyond their office, but Google ties a business to one location. Pages for the cities you work in, backed by real local projects, are how buyers in those towns find you.
“Contractor near me” is decided in the Map Pack
On local searches, Google’s map and its three listings sit near the top, and a buyer can call you straight from a listing. Your Google Business Profile, with the right categories, photos and reviews, is how you compete for one of those spots.
Big projects get researched before anyone calls
A buyer planning an addition, a property-line fence or a storefront replacement reads, compares and comes back more than once. Pages that answer cost, timeline, materials and process questions keep you on the shortlist.
Finished work is the proof buyers look for
Contractors are hired on what they have built. Real project photos, before-and-after shots and reviews that name the job give a buyer a reason to request a quote, and give Google specific signals about the work you do.
What contractor SEO includes
Local SEO for contractors, built around project work.
Every SEO program Lithium runs is built on the same foundation. For a contracting company, the work is tuned to how projects are won: by project type, by town and with visible proof of finished jobs.
Project-type and service-area pages
A page for each project type you want more of and each city you work in, written answer-first with the scope, process and details buyers compare.
Google Business Profile and Map Pack
Categories, services and service areas that match the work you sell, with job photos and updates added month after month.
Project galleries with your photos
Your own job photos, captioned with the project type and town, compressed for fast mobile pages and linked from the matching project pages.
Review-funnel support
A simple review request after finished jobs, so happy clients become Google reviews without your crew chasing them.
Citation cleanup
One name, address and phone on Yelp, Apple Maps, Bing Places and the industry directories buyers check before they call.
Three-tier link building
Monthly links from sources that fit your trade, such as industry publications and associations, layered in three tiers so authority reaches your project pages.
Schema markup
Validated business, service and FAQ schema that tells search engines which trades you cover and where, matching what each page shows.
Call and quote-request tracking
Call tracking on every number and GA4 events on every quote form, so you can see which pages bring in project inquiries.

Contractor SEO results
What SEO did for three contracting companies.
A commercial glass company, a fence company and a restoration company, each in its own market. Every number is printed on that client’s case study.
Commercial glass contractor
Town & Country Glass now meets storefront buyers at the top of Google.
Commercial buyers, from shop owners to property managers, compare a few glass companies before asking for a bid. When Town & Country Glass came to Lithium, it rarely made that shortlist, with about 145 organic visits a month. Location and service pages built around commercial glass searches, technical fixes and steady link building took it to 1,849.

Fence contractor
F&W Fence Co. now shows up for four times as many searches.
F&W built quality fences but was being outranked for the searches that bring in quote requests. On-site and off-site SEO for high-intent fencing searches across its service area, paired with a conversion-focused website, grew its ranking keywords from 190 to 745.

Restoration contractor
Robinson Restoration grew 26X with SEO alone.
Lithium built Robinson’s site structure, speed and service pages from the ground up and ran a sustained link-building program. Organic traffic climbed from 79 visits a month to 2,200+, and 120 keywords reached Google’s top three.

AI search for contractors: AEO + GEO
When buyers ask AI for a contractor, give it facts to work with.
Buyers now ask Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity to compare contractors, explain what a project involves and shortlist who to call. Answer engine and generative engine optimization are part of every SEO program Lithium runs, so those answers have accurate, specific facts about your company.
Answer-first project pages
Each project page opens with a direct answer to what buyers ask first: what the job involves, which towns you cover and how quoting works.
Proof AI systems can check
Project write-ups with the town, scope, materials and photos give AI systems specific facts to cite instead of generic claims.
Depth on every project type
Content that covers the questions buyers ask about each kind of job, linked together so AI systems can see what you build best.
Open to the AI crawlers you choose
We write the llms.txt and robots.txt rules that let the AI systems you approve read your project and service pages, and keep out the ones you don’t.
No one can promise that an AI system will mention your company, and Lithium never does. What you get is the groundwork, reported every month.

How much does SEO for contractors cost?
Lithium’s SEO for contractors typically runs $1,300 to $3,000 a month. Where you land depends on how many cities you serve, how many project types need their own pages, how hard competitors push in those searches and how much link building the site needs to catch up.
How long does SEO take to work for a contractor?
Local rankings for project-and-town searches typically start moving in 60 to 90 days, and revenue impact compounds from month four. Three things move a contractor’s timeline most: how many cities and project types you target, how established the competing sites are, and whether the website needs rebuilding before it can carry more pages. A new company, with no reviews or citations yet, needs those foundations in place before rankings move.
Can you rank us in every city we serve?
We can build for every city where you want work, but no one can promise a ranking in any of them. Google’s local map results weigh distance from your business address, so towns farther out are usually won through the organic results, with a service-area page for each city that has real search demand and local project proof behind it. For Porter Sealcoating & Paving, Lithium built a website with 52 city pages across 7 regions.
Do we need project pages, or is a photo gallery enough?
You need both, because they do different jobs. A gallery shows the range of your finished work at a glance. A project page tells the story of one job, from what the client needed to the finished photos, and can rank on its own for that kind of job in that town.
Do you guarantee first-page or Map Pack rankings?
No. Google decides rankings and Map Pack positions, so no agency can promise one. What Lithium guarantees is the work: the pages, fixes and links in your plan, shipped on schedule.
Do you work with specialty contractors like fence, glass, paving and excavation companies?
Yes. Lithium’s contractor clients include Porter Sealcoating & Paving, Dozer Dave in excavation, Westmore Construction in commercial steel buildings and crane service, Hillsview Building and Rickabaugh Construction. The method stays the same across trades; the project types, cities and competitors change.
Do we have to sign a long-term contract?
Our usual agreement starts with six months, then continues month to month with 30 days’ cancellation notice. Your written agreement confirms the final terms. You own your website, domain and content, and if you leave Lithium, you take them with you.
